Team HBV is the youth outreach arm of Stanford University’s Asian Liver Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness for the disproportionate incidence of hepatitis B and liver cancer among Asians and Pacific Islanders. New Team HBV chapters are founded every year in high schools and universities around the world, including China and Australia. In 2014, viral hepatitis claimed more lives than HIV/AIDS, although hepatitis B is easily preventable with a three-shot vaccine.
I personally joined Team HBV as a freshman, and I’ve made so many close friends because we have socials and outreach events every week. Everyone is really welcoming and friendly, and it’s a close community that I can really call my family. I knew nothing about hepatitis B when I first joined, but now I know HBV awareness will be part of my future career. If you want to take action on a major health issue and make lifelong friends at the same time, join Team HBV! |
