The SAGE Mentorship Program is a great organization to join if you want to give back to the community of Berkeley and foster the education of young kids. SAGE works with 10 elementary schools, seven in Berkeley and three in Oakland, and it sends out students (like you and me) to be mentors to the kids in these classrooms. This means you can help them with schoolwork, talk to them about their life drama (which is very adorable oftentimes) and play with them and their friends during after school hours. You can choose to volunteer as much of your time during the week, with a minimum of one hour required. You can also choose to take this class for two units, in which two hours of volunteering is required.
