There is a soft cap of 20.5 units that you can register for by the end of the adjustment period. The soft cap means that you can add units past 20.5 provided that you are not yet up to the limit. For example, you may add a 4 unit class when you already have 19 units, allowing you to have 23 total. If you seek to go above that, you can arrange a meeting with a counselor and convince them that you are competent enough to handle the workload. You can also let them know if you are carrying out the “shop and drop” approach to registration, where you sign up for many classes you are considering and then drop all but those you like the best after the first week or so. Furthermore, DeCal;s and Seminars are about as useful if you just audit them, so do not bother going past the unit cap if you could just audit courses instead.
