I’ll provide some brief examples of extracurriculars that are available. I’ve participated in intramural sports, volunteer organizations, social clubs, gaming clubs, and academic clubs while on campus. The people I’ve met there come from all sorts of different backgrounds but seem to be able to find what they enjoy doing, and continue pursuing that. Same goes for me; there are so many organizations and clubs to try that even if I didn’t like one of them, I can search for another that better fulfills my interests. It’s the diversity and open-mindedness of the people that I find really attractive. No one will give you a hard time when you are finding your way around. Even as a third year, I am consistently finding out new interests that I had never thought I would be pursuing in the past.

I suppose, for the sake of clarity of the answer, that the part that I love most is having autonomy. At university, you are mostly independent, and having to make some life decisions really allows you to understand the cause and effect of rational action. If you choose to join, then you have that responsibility; if you choose not to, then you are not obligated to act. You can choose what to have for dinner, when to eat, and what kind of audience you find around you. You will discover more about yourself than you have ever done in the past, and this journey of self-discovery and exploration is what makes Cal and the college experience so great.
